Sattal Trip Report
After spending two days in Pangot, we came down to Sattal. Sattal or Sat Tal ("seven lakes") is an interconnected group of seven freshwater lakes situated in the Lower Himalayan Range near Bhimtal, a town of the Nainital district in Uttarakhand, India. Before coming to Sattal we visited Nainital town which is in between Pangot and Sattal. The boat ride in the lake, Naina Devi temple also visited the Tibetan market and we liked all of it. After spending the day in Nainital town we reached the resort "Birders Den" in the evening. A beautiful place in the top of the hill. We spent the rest of the time in the resort area in the birding hide and in the campus.

The first bird greeted me in the morning was the "Blue whistling Thrush". I have observed that this bird is very common in that area. Saw it near the stream, in the forest area and in all other places.
Next day morning, I went to the famous Sattal birding area near the lake. Such an experience it was. Here is some pics from the morning birding -
We went to the Sattal forest area next to try my luck on "Long tailed Broadbill" and this time I am lucky. This is because of my guide Mikma ji. Such a cute bird it is!!
Sattal forest area is also a very good place for birding. We saw so many other species too - Orange bellied leaf bird, Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Brown Fish Owl, Scarlet Minivet, Brown Wood Owl etc.
We went to Chanfi stream area in search of forktails, crested kingfisher, Brown Dipper and Yes, I got them all. Lovely little birdies near the stream..
